Sales Tax Fairness

America’s sales tax system unfairly favors online retailers — who are not required to collect sales tax on most sales — at the disadvantage of local brick-and-mortar merchants. NRF is urging Congress to pass legislation requiring online sellers to collect sales tax the same as local stores. Learn more about the issue.

Border Adjustment Tax

Stop the BAT

America's small retail businesses are worried about a new House tax reform proposal, with provision for a pending “border adjustment tax”. This would be a new, additional tax on the products we use every day. Goods imported into the United States — gas, medicine, fruits, vegetables, clothing — will be more expensive for everyone. If the BAT becomes real, it will increase costs and kill jobs. Learn more about how BAT would affect small businesses.
