The NRF Foundation is seeking an experienced and creative Senior Director to lead our Communications and Content team. This person will develop strategies and oversee initiatives which demonstrate retail as an industry of opportunity and illustrate the impact of the NRF Foundation to important constituencies. The ideal candidate will be a memorable storyteller, inspiring leader, strong collaborator, savvy budget manager, and deeply appreciate the impact of the retail industry as an employer to millions of people. 

Essential Functions

  • Leads the development of content that effectively positions and appropriately aligns the NRF Foundation’s events, programs and initiatives with key stakeholders and target audiences and advances the mission of the Foundation
  • Oversees strategy and execution of key NRF Foundation communication vehicles including the NRF Foundation website, social media and all communication to external stakeholders
  • Develops targeted content and outreach plans for all NRF Foundation events and programs like the NRF Foundation Gala and NRF Foundation Student Program; identifies goals, strategies, tactics, achievement metrics, and budget; manages vendors/partnerships and works with other NRF teams and external partners to execute plans
  • Leads efforts to create and deliver effective, integrated communications and initiatives that successfully demonstrate the impact of the NRF Foundation and promote retail careers to key audiences
  • Partners in the development and oversight of new programs, events, and initiatives; identifies stakeholders and opportunities that advance the mission of the NRF Foundation
  • Oversees the development of materials, relevant content, key messaging and themes and creative strategy
  • Evaluates activities, content and communications to measure impact and ensure consistency and alignment with NRF Foundation’s mission, brand story and overall strategy
  • Partners and collaborates with NRF Communications, Marketing, Research, Government Relations and Content teams to maximize effectiveness of NRF Foundation activities and contribute to strategic priorities of NRF
  • Monitors trends, evaluates resources and processes, measures success and identifies enhancements/modifications to NRF Foundation programs and communication activities as needed
  • Manages marketing and communications budgets, ensures all efforts align with plan goals and objectives
  • Serves as a coach and mentor to team members; actively invests in team’s performance, professional growth and development
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Background/Skills/Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism or relevant discipline
  • A minimum eight years’ experience in marketing or communications, ideally at a nonprofit organization, with at least three years’ experience managing teams
  • Exceptional storyteller with the ability to create impactful messages and bring them to life through development of compelling content and materials
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, produce and disseminate high-quality materials and messages to diverse audiences on complex topics
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Experience forecasting and managing program budgets
  • Ability to manage multiple time sensitive priorities and quickly adapt to change in priorities
  • Proactive and resourceful with the ability to excel and thrive in a complex, and fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational and analytical skills
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and quality work product
