Patent assertion entities, also known as patent trolls, have increasingly targeted retailers, restaurants and other main street businesses because the businesses that “use” technology, but don’t manufacture it, are more numerous. Also, main street businesses often lack the legal resources and technical expertise to fight the claims patent trolls make. The trolls’ behavior caught the attention of lawmakers on Capitol Hill, and this group formulates and shares retail perspective on finding common sense reforms aimed at curbing trolls’ practices. This working group hosts regular conference calls to discuss legislative strategy, timely developments and workable solutions.
