How to apply

The 2017 Ray Greenly application period is now closed. Please email scholarships@nrf.com for more information.

Undergraduate and graduate students from more than 40 schools across the country applied for the 2015 Ray Greenly Scholarship. Executives from companies like Walgreens, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Macy’s, Tractor Supply and Walmart served as judges to select the 25 semi-finalists below. Each student received a travel scholarship to attend the Shop.org Digital Summit and Student Program in Philadelphia from October 4-7.

Digital retail executives, including members of the Shop.org Board of Directors, selected five finalists, awarding one $25,000 scholarship to the top recipient and four $10,000 scholarships to the remaining finalists. Congratulations to this year's top recipient, the University of Pennsylvania's Matthew Rudin!

Top Recipient

Matthew Rudin

Matthew Rudin
University of Pennsylvania
Economics

Fascinated with the intersection of technology and retail since high school, Matthew decided to study computer science and software development in college to prepare him for the e-commerce site he plans to build one day. It is a love of learning and problem solving that fuels his ambition and desire to create a site that “serves as the industry leader in data collection and strategic decision making.”

At the Shop.org 2015 Digital Summit in Philadelphia, True Fit sponsored the first ever Strut for Scholarships Executive Runway Battle to benefit the NRF Foundation. Check out the retail executives and scholarship finalists who participated.

2015 Finalists

Nichole Fallis

Nichole Fallis
University of North Texas
Digital Retailing and Merchandising

Although her original plan was to be a doctor, Nichole quickly realized there was something missing from her career aspirations: the ability to create original content. But it wasn’t long before she discovered how rewarding it is to develop something tangible while interning at a local magazine company. Now, with her heart set in product development, she plans to build “unimaginable digital experiences for customers” everywhere.

Mariana Flores Sosa

Mariana Flores Sosa
Savannah College of Art and Design

As an international student, Mariana believes it is her personal experiences — such as studying abroad in Hong Kong — that have awaken her creativity and expanded her understanding of global markets. Mariana plans to leverage her unique perspective to integrate technology and retail to impact developing countries like her home country, Mexico.

Christopher Gray

Christopher Gray
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
MBA

Christopher’s retail internships have left him with the “nagging desire” to work in the industry’s exciting environment. His goal is to join the internal strategy department of a major retailer, where he believes he can expand existing strategies and pioneer new ones. With the hopes of leaving a lasting impression on the retail industry, Christopher is pursuing an MBA to develop a broader skillset that will help him make a big impact.

Joseph Quan

Joseph Quan
University of Pennsylvania
MBA

As a child, Joseph realized the power of data observing his diabetic grandfather’s constant tracking and real-time reporting of glucose levels. That experience drives Joseph’s passion for working with organizations that push behavioral change through personal data. He hopes to master digital retail tools to produce, market and distribute new technology and create a higher self-awareness in regards to health.
