Wanting customers to see its lighting fixtures “in a way that they might hang in their own homes,” Roll & Hill’s 4,000-square-foot showroom displays three levels of products with a home-like ambiance.

Opened in May in New York’s SoHo neighborhood, Roll & Hill features lighting designs by owner and industrial designer Jason Miller as well as products by 15 other designers, including furniture by Finn Juhl and Golran carpets.

Concrete floors, white walls and high ceilings create an open, airy feeling on the first floor. The second floor has a wood-paneled library furnished with a sofa, lounge chairs, cabinets and a coffee table, creating “a more traditional space that might have aspirational appeal,” Miller says.

The top floor has darker gray walls, wood-paneled columns and purple carpeting. A single staircase connects the floors, creating a “graphic element throughout all three spaces,” he says.

Most items are made to order, crafted in Miller’s Brooklyn factory. He says the showroom gives designers “the ability to do many projects as opposed to just producing pretty lamps. We have a good group of designers, rather than just a good group of lamps.”
