Retail Action Network FAQ

What effect will my Involvement have?
As a retailer, your voice provides a unique perspective that your Members of Congress may not have considered. By joining forces with other retailers, you can directly affect the outcome of pending legislation or regulations that impact your business and the industry at large.

NRF is well known as the voice of retailing in the nation's capital, but it is your message - the message of retailers small and large - that is most meaningful. It is important that Congress know that the retail industry plays an integral role in the U.S. economy - which employs one in five American workers, encompasses more than 1.4 million U.S. retail establishments, and contributes annual sales of $3.6 trillion to the economy.

Members of Congress know that they were elected to represent the interests of their states and Congressional Districts back home. So a word from a hometown constituent far outweighs any word from a Washington lobbyist. That's why calls from retailers are important - whether it's the CEO of a company based in their state, the manager of a store at the local mall or the owner of a small business on main street. Adding your voice strengthens relationships with your elected official and turns up the retail volume on Capitol Hill.

Do I have to be a political expert? NO.
The Retail Action Network is for any retailer interested in getting involved. Retailers with an interest in the continued viability of our industry are our best representatives when communicating with Congress. Although you may already have relationships with your elected representatives, pre-existing relationships are not necessary to be effective in this program. To help educate Members of Congress, review all the legislative issues where NRF is currently engaged.

Do I have to be a member of NRF to participate? NO.
Your company does not need to be a member of NRF to participate in the Retail Action Network. As a member of NRF, however, you would be able to maximize your voice by participating with us on committees, receiving our weekly legislative update, and having access to exclusive "members only" content on the NRF website.
