Washington, October 16, 2007 – Retail advertising and marketing executives will gather this week at the Columbus College of Art and Design to get the inside scoop on what really inspired some of the retail industry’s most imaginative designers. On Friday, October 19 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., retailers, creative directors and marketing gurus will join the Retail Advertising and Marketing Association as they host the RAMA Action Taker Series, appropriately themed “Make Your Mark.”
The afternoon event will begin at noon Friday with registration and a small reception, followed by three speaker presentations, including: John Jay, Executive Creative Director & Partner, Wieden+Kennedy 1:00 p.m., Canzani Center Auditorium
John Jay, who works hand-in-hand with the founders of Wieden+Kennedy, will discuss his role of overseeing the agency’s global offices and effective brand management for large national retailers. Jay spent six years in Tokyo, opening the office there as well as in Shanghai. Prior to moving to Japan, he served as Co-Creative Director on the Nike account and also worked on Microsoft and Coca-Cola in the U.S. In Japan, he oversaw all accounts as Creative Director including Nike Japan, Nike Asia-Pacific, Uniqlo and other influential Japanese brands. Graceann Bennett, Managing Partner, Director of Strategic Planning, Ogilvy & Mather 2:00 p.m., Canzani Center Auditorium
Graceann Bennett will enlighten attendees with her story of the award-winning and evolutionary campaign - “Dove’s Campaign for Real Beauty.” During Bennett’s career, she has worked across several business sectors, including beverage, travel, apparel and personal care and she has provided strategic vision to top clients such as Dove, Volkswagen, Pepsi-Cola, Weight Watchers and ConAgra.
Eric Erickson, Vice President, Creative Director, Target 3:00 p.m., Canzani Center Auditorium
As Creative Director for Target, Eric Erickson is responsible for one of the most visible brands in the world. He authored Target’s “Expect More, Pay Less” brand promise and can attribute much of Target’s rapid growth to that campaign. Eric began his retail advertising career 30 years ago as a copywriter for Dayton’s department store in Minneapolis. Erickson and his team are the recipients of numerous RACie awards and he is also a 2007 inductee into RAMA’s Retail Advertising Hall of Fame. Randy Curtis Memorial Scholarship Presentation 4:00 p.m., Canzani Center Auditorium
The day will culminate with the presentation of the Randy Curtis Memorial Scholarship Award. The scholarship is given to one student who is studying retail advertising and marketing at the Columbus College of Art and Design. The scholarship includes:
A trip to the Retail Advertising Conference held February 2008 in Chicago which includes hotel, airfare and a dinner ticket to the RACie Awards festivities.
A $1500 scholarship to CCAD for the 2008 school year.
The Retail Advertising & Marketing Association, a division of the National Retail Federation, is a trade association of over 1500 retail marketing and advertising executives, plus their supporting partners from the advertising agency, media and service-provider areas. RAMA sponsors the annual Retail Advertising Conference, the largest single gathering of retail marketing and advertising professionals in the industry today.
