NRF Launches Group’s First IT Retail Domain Knowledge Credential Program

Washington, May 9, 2007 - The National Retail Federation today announced the Basics of Retailing credential program, NRF’s first accreditation for information technology and other business consulting professionals.  The program aims to foster deeper industry familiarity among IT professionals and those with expertise in other domains who demonstrate a certain mastery of the retailing business.

Through the external credential process, employees of IT service providers or employees of retail companies who lack prior experience in retail have an industry standard to benchmark and gauge their retail domain expertise. This is unique to the industry that is heavily dependent upon internally developed programs, as well as on-site education.

“NRF is committed to advancing education in all retail sectors,” said NRF President and CEO Tracy Mullin.  “This new credential program is a significant step forward in creating a benchmark for expertise required to align IT and other business strategies and solutions with the business goals of retailers.”

Infosys Technologies, a world leader in consulting and IT solutions, is the first organization to engage NRF to develop the assessment and credential program and has exclusivity with the program for one year. Infosys expects to assess the retail domain knowledge of more than 1,000 employees by the end of the year. Early in 2008 the program will be available to all professionals.

“Technology may serve as a transformational agent, but only when applied with industry expertise. We invest in educating our employees about the technology and the retail industry so that we may help clients transform operations based on their market nuances,” said Pravin Rao U. B., Senior Vice President – Retail, Distribution & Consumer Products Group Infosys Technologies.  “The NRF Basics of Retailing certificate creates a badge of domain expertise and sets a standard for the industry.”
