RAMA Announces Randy Curtis Memorial Scholarship Recipient

Washington, DC, February 8, 2007 – Columbus College of Art & Design, is pleased to announce the recipient of its inaugural Randy Curtis Memorial Scholarship Award. Katherine S. Blinn, a senior at the college pursuing a degree in Advertising and Graphic Design, will receive a $1,000 scholarship to CCAD for the spring 2007 semester in Curtis’s honor.

As part of the scholarship, Katherine will also receive a sponsored trip to RAMA’s Retail Advertising Conference (RAC) and a ticket to the RACie (Retail Award for Creativity, innovation and excellence) Awards Ceremony, where awards will be given to retailers who have displayed unique and inspiring advertising and marketing campaigns throughout the year. In addition, she will also be able to attend her choice of either the Creative or Media Summit being held on Friday, February 9 during the conference.

The scholarship, in its premier year, honors Randy Curtis, former RAMA board member, friend and colleague who openly shared his passion for retail. Randy spent 20 years in the agency world, handling such clients as Target, Procter & Gamble, McDonald’s, Hillshire Farms, General Mills and Pillsbury. He left the agency world in 1997 to join Wal-Mart as their Vice President of Creative and Media. Randy passed away in February 2006.

“This scholarship is a great way for us to promote the retail advertising and marketing industry as well as honor a true friend and visionary,” stated RAMA Executive Director Mike Gatti. “We believe Katherine Blinn is the type of student Randy would have chosen himself to receive the scholarship.”

Katherine currently interns at True Design in Worthington, Ohio, where she works to create brochures, signs, vehicle graphics, t-shirts and logos for local and national clients. She also assists with graphic design for the Dublin Dance Centre & Gymnastics. Prior to her internship she worked at Kohl’s Department Store as a sales associate.

Eligibility criteria for the scholarship requires the student be a senior at the Columbus College of Art & Design and have at least a 3.5 Grade Point Average. The student must also have experience in advertising and/or marketing through internships or part-time or full-time work.

The Retail Advertising & Marketing Association, a division of the National Retail Federation, is a trade association of over 1500 retail marketing and advertising executives, plus their supporting partners from the advertising agency, media and service-provider areas. RAMA sponsors the annual Retail Advertising Conference, the largest single gathering of retail marketing and advertising professionals in the industry today. RAMA also produces the RAC Awards Competition, the most prestigious creative contest in retail. http://www.rama-nrf.org/.
