NRF to Welcome Walmart President and CEO Bill Simon as Keynote at Retail’s BIG Show 2013  

Washington, October 25, 2012 – The National Retail Federation announced today that Bill Simon, president and chief executive officer of Walmart U.S. will keynote Retail’s BIG Show, January 13-16, 2013 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City. Simon’s keynote, titled “A Job to Do: Retail’s Role in an American Renewal” is scheduled for Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 8:30 a.m.

Since becoming CEO of Walmart U.S. in 2010, Simon has reinvigorated Walmart’s core business model – lowering costs in order to offer customers lower prices – and demonstrated how retailers today can and must lead on the big issues that matter to customers and communities.

In his keynote address, Simon will make the case that leadership from within the retail industry is needed now more than ever when it comes to issues like the economy and job creation. 

“As the head of America’s largest retailer, there’s no doubt Bill Simon will enlighten and inspire the thousands of retailers and business partners attending this year’s BIG Show,” said NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay. “NRF is honored to welcome such a distinguished thought leader and visionary to our stage this year. Retail is the engine for this country’s economic recovery and we’re eager to hear about how Walmart is fulfilling that role and how other retailers can play their part in America’s renewal.”

Walmart U.S. serves more than 140 million customers each week and had revenues of $264 billion in Fiscal Year 2012. At the end of fiscal year 2012, Walmart and its subsidiaries employed approximately 2.2 million associates worldwide, with approximately 1.4 million associates in the United States.

From 2007 to 2010, Simon was the chief operating officer for Walmart U.S. where he worked to drive innovation and improvement throughout the business. He previously served as executive vice president of professional services and new business development and led the team that created and launched Walmart’s $4 prescription drug program.

Simon joined Walmart in March 2006 from Brinker International where he was senior vice president of global business development and was responsible for the growth of the company’s restaurant portfolio outside the United States.  Bill also was president of Diageo Southeast and president of North America Ready to Drink. He held senior sales and marketing roles with Cadbury-Schweppes, PepsiCo and RJR-Nabisco.

Retail’s BIG Show and EXPO serve as the world's leading retail event, bringing 25,500 retail executives and vendors from more than 75 countries together for educational and networking opportunities. The convention has been ranked as one of the Top 200 events in North America, as well as one of the 50 fastest-growing events. Other speakers at Retail’s BIG Show 2013 include executives from Coca Cola, Belk, Sony, and Deloitte.
