The NRF Foundation and 25 Universities Partner to Promote Retail Careers to Students
Washington, October 25, 2012 – More than two dozen colleges and universities have joined the NRF Foundation as partners through a program that provides educators and students exclusive access to retail industry research, educational events and other industry networking opportunities. The college and university partner program is part of the NRF Foundation’s mission to promote retail as a career path to young people by providing students with the tools needed to be successful in retail, and demonstrate that opportunities in the retail industry include a variety of fields including marketing, operations, merchandising, logistics, IT, analytics, criminal justice, and dozens of others.
“As retailers become increasingly focused on succession planning, talent development, and talent shortages in their companies, our partnerships with some of the most prominent universities across the country will tell our industry’s story to thousands of students who are getting ready to take the first step in their career,” said NRF Foundation Executive Director Ellen Davis. “Retail has tremendous opportunities for America’s next generation of innovators, and we’re committed to bringing retailers and educators together to demonstrate what a retail career really looks like.”
As College and University Partners, faculty and students gain access to resources that NRF and the Foundation offer, including unlimited student membership in the NRF Student Association, access to industry research, the ability to attend a special student program at Retail’s BIG Show this January, and an opportunity to connect with retail recruiters from companies around the world. Additionally, each school is eligible to nominate students for the Ray M. Greenly Scholarship, which is given each year to students who demonstrate the skills and desire to become a future retail leader.
