NRF Hires Veteran Senate Aide as Newest Lobbyist
Washington, April 14, 2011 - The National Retail Federation announced today that veteran Senate staffer Beth Provenzano has been hired to serve as Senior Director for Federal Government Relations. Provenzano will serve as NRF’s primary Senate lobbyist, a new position directing engagement with senators and staff.
Prior to joining NRF, Provenzano served as deputy chief of staff for the Office of the Secretary of the Senate, handling a variety of duties including preparation of testimony and organizing Senate leadership events. Provenzano also served as spokeswoman for the office.
“Beth’s Senate experience and strong relationships on the Hill make her an invaluable asset to NRF and the retail community,” NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay said. “With the political climate creating more uncertainty in the business community, it is critical that we continue to add resources to support the industry’s advocacy efforts.”
In 2010 NRF’s Board of Directors endorsed a new strategic plan to guide the organization into a new era of increased policy advocacy, communications and grassroots engagement. Earlier this year NRF tapped David French, a respected Washington lobbyist, to lead a significantly more robust government relations function.
Provenzano represents the latest in series of new hires to support NRF’s advocacy initiatives. Provenzano spent a number of years on Capitol Hill, serving as executive assistant and scheduler for Senator John Rockefeller, D-W.Va., and in a similar capacity to former Senator Bob Graham, D-Fla.
