NRF and Health Care Reform

Our Stance on Health Care Reform

Representing the retail industry—which employs one in five Americans— the National Retail Federation has long been committed to helping find a solution to what President Barack Obama has called his highest legislative priority: reforming health care. The NRF Vision for Health Care Reform will cover all Americans with higher quality and affordable health coverage.  NRF supports federal subsidies to help all obtain coverage, insurance market reform to help with affordability, and a new priority on keeping people healthy and better managing expensive chronic conditions.

NRF worked closely with the late Senate HELP Committee Chairman Ted Kennedy and Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus as they collaborated to craft an overhaul of the U.S. health care system.  (D-MT) for more than a year as they collaborated to craft an overhaul of the U.S. health care system.  Ultimately, NRF was disappointed by the product of both committees.  NRF is working hard today to salvage positive reform from Congressional plans that will impose expensive, job-killing mandates on employers and levy ruinous taxes to fund intrusive new government programs.

The National Retail Federation is leading the broad retail community’s response to the health care reform debate.  We are also helping to lead the greater business community in allied effort.
