Dan Butler is vice president of retail operations at the National Retail Federation. In this role, Butler is responsible for managing committee meetings of top retail executives, developing conference programming, and ensuring that NRF members are well informed about pertinent retail industry issues. Butler also serves as the NRF liaison to several member committees, including the NRF Sustainable Retailing Consortium.
Butler is a retail veteran with more than 30 years of experience in retail management, operations, merchandising, sustainability, and human resources. Butler has in-depth knowledge of and success with exceeding sales plans, reducing associate turnover, and achieving inventory control objectives; therefore lending a tremendous voice to the organization. Butler also serves as a primary spokesperson on issues such as retail sales, industry trends, consumer behavior and store and online operations.
In addition to serving as the creator of the NRF DESiGN STUDiO, which has previously showcased retail store design and visual merchandising at Retail's BIG Show, Butler has served as a judge for the EuroShop Store of the Year competition for the past five years, and is an honorary member of the Retail Design Institute.
Prior to joining NRF, Butler was vice president and store manager at a Macy’s department store in Miami. While at Macy’s, he managed a store with $48 million in annual sales volume and successfully reduced both internal and external shrinkage and dramatically reduced employee turnover. Before joining Macy’s in 1998, Butler spent 11 years with Hecht’s department stores. While working at Hecht's Butler was twice named Divisional Sales Manager of the Year.
